Understanding Device Compatibility
If our compatibility checker indicates that your device is not supported, here’s why.
Most smartphones released in 2018 or later are compatible with US carriers, but there are exceptions. In addition to 4G support, your device must have 4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capabilities to function. Without 4G VoLTE, your phone will not work on any US carrier.
Additionally, the retirement of 3G networks means that devices relying on 3G are no longer operational. Here’s a timeline of the phase-out:
- AT&T: Began shutting down 3G in February 2022
- T-Mobile: Shut down Sprint’s 3G CDMA network on March 31, 2022, and Sprint’s 4G LTE network on June 30, 2022
- Verizon: Completed its 3G shutdown on December 31, 2022
